How we set these figures

No government or trade body publishes LEV testing fees, so these ranges are our own reading of the starting prices and per-point rates UK testing firms publish, checked in November 2026. We do not name or link those firms. The figures are national: expect London and remote sites near the upper figure.

Rules behind the testing

Asked about fees

How much does LEV testing cost?

One small system with one or two hoods usually costs £150 to £300 plus VAT. Each further hood or extraction point on the same visit adds about £25 to £60.

Why is it priced per hood?

Each hood or point has to be measured, compared with its benchmark, labelled and written up. The number of points is the best guide to how long the visit and the report take.

Is commissioning included in the test price?

No. Commissioning a new or altered system is a separate, longer job, typically £400 to £1,200.

Are repairs included?

No. The examiner reports what needs fixing; repairs are quoted separately, by the examiner’s firm or by whoever maintains your system. A retest of the failed hoods follows.

Can we cut the cost?

Test every system on a site on one visit, have the commissioning report and last test report ready, and make sure the machines are free to run on the day. Return visits are what push costs up.

Do prices include VAT?

The figures here exclude VAT. Most testing firms are VAT registered, so add 20% unless you can reclaim it.
